How to survive exam day


It's exam season in Trinidad and the Caribbean at large with many students preparing to write the S.E.A., CSEC and CAPE exams. With months of hard work behind them as well as the investment of time and money in extra tuition, these students are excited to get the exams out of the way. There is however, another hurdle they need to cross in order to ensure that they truly survive the exam. Many people seem to forget that exam day requires preparation as well and failure to do so will undo all the the hard work that was done before. So how do you survive exam day? Keep reading and we'll tell you how.

1. Wake up early.

All the experts agree that one should get lots of rest the night before the exam, however what they fail to add is that waking up early is equally important. By waking up early on exam day, you will be able to get dressed as well as have time to sit down and enjoy a hearty breakfast without feeling rushed.

2. Have a hearty breakfast

It's important to have a hearty breakfast on exam day. Yes we know that you may be a bit nervous and you may not be tempted to eat but forgoing breakfast at this stage can be a big no-no. Not eating before the exam will result in you becoming hungry which will make it difficult to fulfill the task at hand. Imagine yourself trying to concentrate with a rumbling tummy. Impossible right? So when exam time rolls around, please ensure that you eat to your heart's content.

3. Ensure that you have everything that you need

So you woke up early, had a hearty breakfast and it's time to head to the exam room. The next step would be to ensure that you have everything that you need before leaving the house. Forgetting your pencil case at home will only add to your nervousness and can impact your performance on the day. So before you head through that door, ensure that you have all the tools that are needed for the task at hand.

4. Leave home with plenty of time to spare

Reaching late for your examination will certainly add to your anxiety, this is why we recommend leaving home early for your exams. There are lots of incidents that can happen on the way to the exam that can make you late so leaving home too late can be a big mistake. Traffic, flat tyres and vehicular accidents are events that are beyond your control however these unexpected incidents can occur on exam day. To be on the safe side we recommend leaving home about 45 minutes earlier than you normally would to ensure that in the event you encounter any of the obstacles, you will still be on time.
